Equipment

  • Baking Dish
  • Cast Iron Skillet

Ingredients

  • 1 Challah Bread
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 1 t Cinnamon Powder
  • 1/8 t Cardamom , Optional
  • 1 t Vanilla Extract
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 1 tbsp Butter for frieing

Instructions

  1. Cut the Challah Bread into 3/4 inch(2cm) thick slices.
  2. In a bowl combine milk, eggs, honey, cinnamon, cardamom (if using), vanilla, and salt. Mix till everything is incorporated.
  3. Preheat a cast-iron skillet or any frying pan you have with the butter on med-heat.
  4. Transfer the milk liquid to a baking dish. Add as many slices as you can fit (see photos above). Let them soak up the liquid for about 30sec on each side.
  5. Transfer them to the hot skillet and cook till golden brown on each side.
  6. Keep them in a warm oven while you make the rest.
  7. When ready to eat, you can add toppings of your choice - butter, maple syrup, honey, berries, whipped cream, nuts... Anything your heart desires.
  8. Enjoy while warm!

Notes

  • Make sure you don't soak the slices for too long, or they will fall apart.
  • Don't cut the slices too thick. You will have to soak them for longer, or they might end up dry in the center.
